The Dacal Technology CD Library is a motorised 150-disc gadget which can deliver any disc into your hand in a few seconds. It works via a simple manual interface, or under PC control via USB. And it works with every kind of 120mm discs: music CDs, DVD movies, CD-ROMs, CD-Rs, games, you name it. You can operate the CD Library manually: just stack in the discs, make directory entries into the provided booklet, plug the unit in, and you are ready to go. However, you will get much more out of your CD Library when you connect it with your PC and download the software. This simple database-and-control package is what makes the DC-300 and DC-101 worth using. It allows you to create a database by inserting the CD into CD-ROM reader. It lets you add notes and remarks (for example, who did you lend a particular disc to). It also enables you to locate the disk title on the screen, click on it, and have it ejected. The CD Library connects to the computer via the USB interface. Plugging in the USB cable doesn't disable manual operations from working, so you can always manually dial-a-disc if you like. You can connect up to 127 CD Library units to one computer via USB, giving you access to over 19,000 discs from the self-expanding database. CD Libraries are stackable; however, it is not recommended to stack more than five on top of each other. CD Library offers an elegant way to store a multitude of CD and DVD discs, even without a computer. With a computer, it's a still better idea, especially if you've got several hundred discs to deal with. CD Library comes complete with Power Adapter, USB Cable, CD Rom Driver and Database software, Management Form, User Guide and Security Key. Note: The use of paper labels on CD's is not recommended as the increased thickness may result in the CD sticking. Also note: CD Library is a storage box. It can not read CD-ROMs or play audio CDs! top |
Major differences between DC-300 and DC-101 - The DC-300 delivers your discs faster than the DC-101, for it turns both clockwise and anticlockwise. DC-101 turns only clockwise, and if the CD you want is just once removed from the target spot – you have to wait for the full circle to turn.
- The disc eject process is better in DC-300. It is now designed so that you are able to hold the ejected disc by the edge only.
- DC-300 works not only with Windows versions, but with Mac OS as well.
- DC-300 has keypad featured for easier manual selection: to get the disc number 150, just key in the three digits, press the red button, and the unit will disgorge your selection. To select a disc manually with DC-101, you have to turn the knob until the green LED readout indicates the appropriate slot number, and push the knob in. (Both DC-101 and DC-300 have to be plugged in to operate).
