Extend desktop computer possibilities with help of small PCI to PCMCIA adapter card marketed by Frontier Electronics

[Johannesburg, 15 September 2006] - During the 10 years of its existence, Frontier Electronics has sold many computer components. However, few have been as popular as the little adapter card that gives a personal computer the gift of a PCMCIA slot.

Nowadays, laptops are routinely built with such a slot, ready to receive the (more or less) credit-card-sized PC cards that add functionality to portable computers. The extra bonus is that you can exchange the cards on the fly, without rebooting your laptop. For example, you can slip in a fax modem card when you want to send a fax and then, when you're done, replace the fax modem card with a memory card.

In short, once you get spoilt by the ease of slotting PC Cards in and out of your laptop, you might begin to regard your good old desktop with a touch of ill-concealed displeasure.

Then you discover the aforementioned PCI to PCMCIA Card Adapter.

The adapter provides a quick, easy and cost-effective way to use PC Cards (otherwise knows as PCMCIA Cards, also referred to as CardBus) on your desktop computer. All you need to do is put the adapter into the motherboard's PCI slot, taking care to align the adapter's narrow PCMCIA slot with one of the openings at the back of your computer.

Then insert a PCMCIA card (which you have purchased separately) into this narrow slot. And that's all.

Depending on the kind of card you inserted, you will be able to:
* Get extra USB ports (with the USB PCMCIA card);
* Browse the Internet (with the 3G card);
* Get a modem (with the modem PCMCIA card);
* Read memory cards (with the card reader PCMCIA card);
* Network (with the PCMCIA networking card); and
* Network wirelessly (with the wireless PCMCIA network card).

Note 1: Installing the PCI to PCMCIA Card Adapter into a computer involves opening the computer case. This requires some technical knowledge and may interfere with warranty conditions. If in doubt, ask your computer dealer to upgrade your PC with Frontier's PCI to PCMCIA Card Adapter.

Note 2: PCMCIA, pronounced as separate letters, stands for Personal Computer Memory Card International Association, but is often jokingly referred to as People Can't Memorise Computer Industry Acronyms. Exasperated with such irreverence, PCMCIA supporters now refer to the same device as PC Card (Portable Computer Card). Some also call it CardBus.

Note 3: Since there are actually several different PC Card (and PC Card slots) sizes, it is advisable to check your size before purchasing anything.
