You will recognise them easily. Just look for the following symptoms: mildly distant, patient look of those who know more; memory cards sticking out of every available pocket; tiny screws materialising everywhere around them.

Yes, we are talking about Frontier Electronics' technicians. They are usually to be found with a pile of computer ingredients in front of them. If you watch for long enough (the trick is to be really quiet), you may witness the pile getting transformed into an Eaglepower brand name computer.

Seems complicated, no?

Frontier's technicians maintain that it is quite simple. You just put everything exactly where it is supposed to be. Then you burn the machine for 24 hours. If it can stand that, it will probably last for many a year. As a matter of fact, it is more likely to be cast aside because a new model supplanted it, than because it has reached the end of its life span.

Of course, any part of any machinery, computers included, may decide to give up its soul at a most unpredictable time. In the unlikely event of that happening to your Eaglepower PC, you have Frontier's one-year warranty to fall back on.

The single most vulnerable component is modem - at least in these South African climes. After all, modems have been known to die of lightening strike. A word of caution: acts of God or nature are not covered by warranty, so take precautions! 

Frontier's technicians recommend not only switching the modem off, but actually unplugging it during stormy weather.

Caring for your Eaglepower 

computer once it is out of Frontier's workshop does not entail much work. Keep it cool (away from the sun and other heat sources), keep it clean (yes, take that duster to it once in a while), and do not open it (unless you are an expert and the warranty has expired).

As a special bonus for you, here's a little tip on how to get rid of unwanted particles that slide in between the keys even if you do not snack over your keyboard. (Is there someone who doesn't?)

Turn the keyboard upside down and pat it gently on the back, like you would when burping a baby. You'll be surprised at the size of the pile!
